#DesignCamp
Learning should be a joyful experience, not only for young people, but for the adults who work alongside them. #DesignCamp by Unlocked is a participant-driven professional learning experience that actively engages adult-learners in expertly crafted practices that promote deeper learning. The arc of the #DesignCamp experience begins with a highly interactive, low-stakes, and common design experience for all attendees. The purpose of the opening experience is to ground the group in the core aspects of human centered design. This experience models for participants that rigor in learning does not have to be absent of joy.
Participants then have multiple learning choices to choose from over the course of two 90 minute breakout sessions. These choices are all anchored in Human Centered Design and are taught in a way to provide the background, skills, and momentum necessary to be able to implement immediately:

Participants then have multiple learning choices to choose from over the course of two 90 minute breakout sessions. These choices are all anchored in Human Centered Design and are taught in a way to provide the background, skills, and momentum necessary to be able to implement immediately:
- Human Centered Design (HCD): an equity-focused approach to creative problem solving.
- Pedagogy: the methods and practices for teaching young people. Specifically we focus on the Deeper Learning Competencies: Content Mastery, Collaboration, Self-Directed Learning, Critical Thinking & Problem Solving, Effective Communication, and Academic Mindset.
- Culture: is a result of the collective action for how we behave, act, operate, react, connect, and go about the lives of our organizations. Culture is multi-dimensional, dynamic, and requires constant tending.
We aspire for attendees to be:
- refreshed and revitalized to do important work,
- connected to other like-minded professionals,
- familiar with the basic tenets and promise of human centered design,
- able to apply at least one new practice/learning to their immediate context,
- convinced that rigor does not have to be absent from joy.
Audience:
- K-12 Educators: We invite both teachers, administrators, and everyone in between to come experience #DesignCamp.
- Community: While #DesignCamp may “speak” to school personnel, we appreciate having some spaces allotted for students, parents, and industry professionals to join in and contribute to the learning. Learning should not be limited to four walls, and just the traditional participants. Learning should be more broad and be stoked by the experiences, inspirations, and curiosities of others.
